PRINT PROCESS

I produce each individually signed "Gallery Print"s from select images in my stock. For images that are less than 16" x 24" (16" x  whatever length for panoramas), I produce the prints myself.   My printing process starts with acquiring a digital file.  I now shoot totally digital but, or images that begin life on film I start with scanning the original film on a Nikon film scanner or sending the film out to a quality film service.   Next only normal cropping, exposure, sharpening, and color corrections are made digitally. If it is not on the original frame, it does not come out on my prints.  I do use two digital packages to process some images.   First is a digital stitching program I use to create my panoramic images.   The second is an HDR package (High Dynamic Range) that allows me to take several exposures of the same scene and blend them together.

Each image is then printed using Epson Pigmented ink technology. I am currently using an Epson 4880pro These printer use both archival papers and pigmented inks that can last several times longer than even a normal color photo without fading.  One new item I offer are my Gallery Wraps.  These are printed using the same printer and ink technology on specially treated canvas.  These are then stretched and mounted on standard 3/4" thick stretcher bars, ready to hang or they can be framed if desired.

When I do have to produce prints that are larger than the 16 x 24"" size I select printers that use the same high quality and archival processes to produce my prints.   While not offered on this site, I do show framed images at gallery shows.   These are professionally dry-mounted on foam core board and then matted and framed using the best archival materials.
